Travel Tips + Advice
Photos are a return ticket to a moment otherwise gone.
When you travel, take pictures!
My Camera
I recently purchased an Olympus Mark III MirrorLess Camera and I love traveling with it! It not only is easy to use but it’s cute to wear. It may not matter to you men out there but I can speak for most women and say we love all types of fashion. I’m obsessed with the colorful Le Pom Pom strap I purchased from Anthropologie.
My Kids Cameras
The 3 kids have a camera of their own, each a different color. Waterproof, shockproof, freezeproof and dustproof. I love the look on someone’s face when the kids drop the camera or throw it down. They all look at me and I’m sure are waiting for me to yell at them! Our current pick is the Olympus Tough.
I really encourage our kids to take as many pictures as possible. It’s such an easy way to engage them and it gives them a purpose and minimizes the ever so common, “mommy, are we done yet?” The Taj Mahal, one of the 7 wonders, was filled with a ton of photography opportunities for the kids which allowed me to actually listen to my ever so patient guide.
Do I actually do something with the kids photos?
Once we are home I upload their photos and print them for free on the Shutterfly app. The only thing you pay is shipping. What a deal! I also use Shutterfly to make our photo albums. They have wonderful preset templates or you can create from scratch. I print one album for me and each kid gets an album in their room. It’s a great way to save those wonderful memories and keep them fresh in our memory bank. Yes, it’s very time consuming, but 100% worth it.
Candid or posed?
I love a good candid shot when photographing not only my children with the world around me. It shows so much about a person and place. It’s not that I don’t love when they are all looking and smiling at the camera, but let’s face it, you might get that “perfect” photo with no less than 40 tries. Capture people when they are being themselves and enjoying the moment.
What else do I photograph?
On our recent trip to India, I fell in love with symmetrical and architectural photography. There’s so much more to see when you just walk around an explore with kids. They noticed thing you may have walked right past. As long as they aren’t being obnoxious, it’s ok to let them run and explore, the rule is they stay in my visual field, and with each other. No yelling and no screaming.
So bottom line…when you travel, take pictures!
